If you think that you or someone you love has fallen victim to identity theft, then you need to report it immediately to the Federal Trade Commission also known as the FTC. You should also alert all three credit agencies, Experian, Transunion, and Equifax and they can freeze your credit so no other accounts can be opened in your name.
The most important thing to remember when you find out that your identity has been stolen that time is of the essence. The quicker you act, the quicker you will nip the damage in the butt. Identity Theft Protection is not only about taking the steps in preventing identity theft, but protecting yourself from it from the day you find out that a crime has been committed and into the future.
Being cautious in the first place will help you avoid identity theft all together, but if identity theft happens to you, you will definitely know where to get started to getting things cleaned up.
